Sir Patrick Houstoun, 1st Baronet

Sir Patrick Houstoun of that Ilk, 1st Baronet, (d.1696) was created a Baronet of Nova Scotia on February 29, 1668, the elder son of Sir Ludovick (or Louis) Houstoun of that Ilk (d.1662) by his spouse Margaret, daughter of Patrick Maxwell of Newark.

Sir Patrick Houston married Anne, daughter of John, Lord Bargany, and had issue, five sons and four daughters. Of the latter, three made very notable Scottish marriages:

Sir Patrick was succeeded by his eldest son and heir, Sir John Houstoun, 2nd Baronet of that Ilk.

Sir Patrick Houstoun was also a member of the Free and Accepted Masons. Houstoun is recorded as a being initiated a Freemason and member of Solomon's Lodge No. 1, F. & A. M. at Savannah in October of 1734. Solomon's lodge No. 1, F. & A. M. was established on February 21, 1734 by the renowned Soldier, Statesman, Philanthropist and Freemason James Edward Oglethorpe (Founder of the Colony of Georgia). Solomon's Lodge is now the "Oldest Continuously Operating English Constituted Lodge of Freemasons in the Western Hemisphere".
